We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated Word Processor I to join our talented team. In this role, you will be responsible for creating, editing, and formatting documents using word processing software like Microsoft Word, ensuring accuracy and proper formatting of text-based materials, with key responsibilities including typing from drafts, creating tables, inserting graphics, and managing basic document layouts, while possessing skills like proficient typing, knowledge of formatting options, and basic document organization techniques.

Work is performed on site in Norfolk, VA and Virginia Beach, VA.

This position is contingent upon award news Spring of 2026.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Type and format documents from handwritten notes, rough drafts, or dictation.
  • Correct errors, make revisions, and update existing documents.
  • Apply formatting styles like font type, size, bold, italics, underlining, alignment, and spacing.
  • Design and insert tables with appropriate cell formatting.
  • Manage page margins, headers, footers, and section breaks.
  • Incorporate images and other visuals into documents.
  • Check for spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors, ensuring accuracy.
  • Properly save documents and prepare them for printing.
  • Creating, editing, saving, and printing various documents, including correspondence, reports, tables, forms, and schedules.
  • Using word processing software to format text, including font type, bolding, underlining, and italicizing.
  • Organizing and managing documents efficiently.
  • May also handle other clerical duties, such as answering phones, handling mail, or running errands.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • One (1) year of experience with Microsoft Word.
  • Proficient typing speed and accuracy.
  • Expertise in using word processing software like Microsoft Word or similar applications.
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Word features and functions.
  • Knowledge of formatting tools, including fonts, styles, tables, and page layout.
  • Familiarity with computer hardware and software.
  • Careful review of documents for errors and inconsistencies.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
  • Ability to identify and correct errors in text and formatting.
  • Ability to manage multiple documents and projects efficiently.
  • Experience navigating file systems, opening and saving documents.
  • Understand instructions and communicate effectively with team members regarding document needs.

Required Security Clearance:

  • US Citizenship required.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance.
    • Active Interim Secret or final Secret clearance is preferred.
